minus the bear vs tapes n tapes. round one. fight.
    Friday, 18 April 2008
just got home from the tapes n tapes show at the paradise. it was way rad. they played pretty much their entire discography. unfortunately it failed to dislodge the minus the bear song that's been stuck in my head all day. now i just have "just drums" and "burying luck" alternating with "the final countdown" in my head. if i had any free time, i'd do a little remix / mash-up action. it's kindof awesome.

i spent most of the day recording new songs for my record which i think will be called "tell me something, honey." i was hoping for a really devastating sad song for the disc, but i keep coming up with bitter-sweet rockers. nevertheless, unless i get a killer flash of inspiration, i think i have the final track line-up, and now i just need to finish the final mixes of everything. i'm still working towards a late may / early june release, but a lot of that will depend on how quickly i can get it up on eMusic and iTunes once the mixes are done. i hope to get a new set of near-field monitors this weekend (and a new guitar!!!) so once that happens, i'll start on the final mixes and start finishing up the art work.

speaking of iTunes and eMusic and artwork, the new sputnik sweetheart EP will be up for digital distribution on may 8th (the same date as our next gig!). i'm figuring out how to post images to the blog right now. hopefully the awesome artwork by sarah sloboda will show up below. the wysiwyg editor for the blog is broken, so i'm editing everything in raw html...

in further excitingness, i have a solo gig tomorrow (or later today technically...) at jitter's in southington ct. i've actually practiced and prepared a set list for once, so everyone should come down. as i get closer to the release date i'm going to be stepping up the amount of solo shows i do. also, for those of you in the ct area, on saturday they'll be giving away a cd with an old track of mine "the taste of blood" (listen to it to the left.) as part of an anti-war thing, and they'll be showing the video on the uconn campus. if you're nearby, go down and check it out. in the meantime, i'm going to bed!

    streetcar named busy
    Saturday, 12 April 2008
oh it's been a very busy few months since the last update. i'm in tech for jason southerland's deconstructionist streetcar down at foothills theatre right now. it's amazing and bizarre but mostly just brilliant. i wrote the score and sound designed it. the music sounds something like how new orleans jazz would sound in a dream. it opens for press tomorrow and i couldn't be more proud.

once we open i'm back to finishing up the a thousand ships full length we started recording back in january, and hopefully finally securing a release for my new solo record which i've been working on for over a year now. the hardest part is trying to cut down the 20+ songs i've recorded for it to a listenable 11 or so. then continuing to perform and promote the sputnik sweetheart EP, This Drama. not to mention helping the androgynous androids put out their CD...it's been a busy few months, and it'll only get more busy...

i've got a few more very exciting projects coming up, and am going to try to go back to updating once a week as things get moving. in the meantime, listen to "cop show" from the This Drama EP, and check back often.

the importance of remembering to update
    Thursday, 11 October 2007
amazing. two updates in one week. i'm totally screwing up the pattern. hooray! i'm working up in groton on the importance of being earnest for the village theatre project, and actually having fun in tech again! i had sort of forgotten about tech being fun and not just a terrible terrible means to an end. i'm excited.

the real reason i'm writing is that i'm planning on touring again this winter. right now i'm looking at a short 4-5 day tour in mid-late november, and then a 2 week up and down the east coast tour for mid december. if anyone has any leads / suggestions where to play that would be ammenable to a guy who plays very loud acoustic music, please shoot an e-mail over to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . my plan is to play a coffeehouse in the afternoon and then a club or bar at night every night...so that's the goal. any help is always appreciated.

    nathan out.
